A pop-up shop, designed to house an industrial knitting machine which knits on request

Somerset House, London (2014)
Client: Unmade (formally Knyttan)

A pop-up shop was designed and made in the heart of Somerset House for Unmade (previously Knyttan), where visitors could customise garments on tablets in-store and then have their garment knit from the machine on-site.

The industrial knitting machine was housed in a sound-proof bespoke factory, from where the customer could watch their creation being knitted before them. Other off-the-shelf items could be purchased, and were displayed as a commercial shop. The furniture was designed not to distracting away from the colourful knitwear. Interest was added by highlighting the ‘seamed’ joints in the furniture with high gloss sat against matt wooden panels.
